MTV "TJ" search update

The MTV TJ competition has come and gone in a matter of 13 days, which, I guess, is about the time it really can take to become popular on the internet. The online competition consisted of five Twitter challenges with a final five making it to the end and, furthermost, to the finale. You can read about it here.

If this competition gets a lot of buzz going, look for similar ones to be happening and not just for a TJ job. For example, on "The City," which I mentioned in my post here, there were two women, Olivia and Louise, vying for the spot of "the face of Elle.com." It came down to who had the better interviews, personality, and overall video. If you want to apply for a position such as that, a company will want video samples instead of a resume that states how great you are. From now on, be overly prepared.

Employee Communication

So you have an amazing blog that gets a million hits a day and a Twitter account with more followers than Demi Moore. That success has landed you a job that you always wanted. Now how do you prove yourself to the company in person as opposed to over the internet?

Aside from the same strategies you used on your blog and Twitter, use the communication model above, called RBC's new model of employee communication. The article below describes in detail about employee participation, but the model is a business move that will impress your boss.

It's a fairly simple process. You need to inform your boss by using tactics and processes that can make the company more successful, just like your blog. These will produce an estimated outcome, which is engaging your boss all while keeping the business in mind. Sound simple? Try applying it and you'll realize it's much more work than listing the pro's and con's. To connect yourself to the business plan, use examples of how you applied the tactics/processes to your social media and how it worked for you.

Social Media Newspaper?

I was reading Consumer Reports magazine (that's for another post another day) and they featured a lot of apps for different articles. For example, alternate methods of paying at a store if you don't have a credit card or cash. For some reason, I got to thinking about a newspaper (or magazine, even) that would be based solely on apps and social media to help companies as well as the average person. I'm not talking about New York Times online or Mashable. I mean a hard copy that is an app dictionary and features websites aside from Twitter and Facebook that help people connect in different ways.

For example, a website that is no where as near popular is foursquare, a location-based website and app. It lets you tell your friends when you're out at a restaurant or a store. If you check-in at a place enough, you become mayor. It's pretty simple and addicting. Bravo channel and Marc Jacobs have an accounts.

Now, what if there was a newspaper that listed sites such as foursquare to help people that are searching for something different or a little more specific? Yeah, there's Google search, but that only goes so far. The internet only goes so far.

Or does it?

Yahoo! Finance: Apps we wish we had

Yahoo! Finance had an article about what everyday normal people want as a "dream" app, per say. Yes, there are a lot of "@" symbols, since this was conducted via Twitter, but look passed that and at some of the pretty cool (and funny) ideas. The article can be found here.

Best Interview App

VS

In a post from a week and a half ago, which can be found here, I was determined to find the best free interview app that could help amateurs and veterans.

The remaining contenders:
B. Free Interview Questions and Answers by SwipeQ
*3 Stars of 291 ratings
D. Interview Prep Questions by simpaddico llc
*3.5 stars of 799 ratings

The results...
2. Interview Prep Questions
The most frustrating thing about this is that it's flashcards from the get go. There is no menu except for a few options on the bottom of the screen. All the cards are random, which is realistic. There is an index for search purposes for a specific question as well as a search bar. The app is very, very simple, but almost too much so. You can favorite cards, too, if you have difficulty answering one or need a quick reminder as it is how you're supposed to answer.

1. Free Interview...
This app is very well organized. You can view all 40 questions or by subject, which are basic. There's also a brainteaser section, which is either stupid or smart. An example of one of them is:
Q: If you look at a clock and the time is 3:15, what is the angle between the hour hand and the minute hand?
A: 7 1/2 degrees.
There's a search bar, favorites section, and the menu that starts up at the opening is very helpful. There's a custom question option, which is a tad confusing at first but easy to catch on after the first mistake. And one thing that does matter: the creepy icon of a man. I'm sorry, it's just weird and, well, creepy.

Happy interviewing :)

"The City" features bloggers for Elle.com

This past weekend, MTV aired a huge marathon of every single "The City" and "The Hills" episode since the season and series finales, respectively, will be airing Tuesday night starting at 9:00pm. I, of course, watched it aaaall weekend and an episode from season one stood out to me. Elle did a photoshoot on fashion bloggers.

The two bloggers the show featured were Jane Aldridge (above left) of Sea of Shoes and Tommye Fitzpatrick (right) of Fashionologie, although there were many more.

Since Elle is acknowledging the fact that the internet is a resource for fashion almost as much as the magazine itself, it shows that they know who the competition is persay as well as telling the world that the internet is the real deal. These two bloggers bought URLs for themselves and consistently update to show just how serious they are. And at such a young age, too!

It's easy to start up and not too difficult to maintain, which got these girls a photoshoot at Elle. Crazy, huh?

Prince: The internet's completely over

According to Prince, the internet is completely over. What he doesn't realize is that it hasn't even truly begun. I always knew something was fishy about him...

Interview iPhone Apps

It wasn't until Interview Survival Kit by Netmodular was in the Featured section of my App Store that I came to view applications as a way to help calm down pre-interview nerves. Unfortunately, I was not able to download it because I don't have WiFi and the file size was too big for my 3G to do (or something, I don't know).

However, I searched "interview" in the store and found four free apps. Which one was best? First, meet the contenders.

A. 100 Great Answers to the Toughest Interview Questions by Six Voices
*3 stars of 1300 ratings
B. Free Interview Questions and Answers by SwipeQ
*3 Stars of 291 ratings
C. Interview Wizard by Daniel Wong
*3 stars of 117 ratings
D. Interview Prep Questions by simpaddico llc
*3.5 stars of 799 ratings

4. 100 Great Answers...
If you have never had an interview before in your life and never been given any pointers, then this app may do you some good. It's in a book format, so you're reading about how the interview process works, what the interviewer is thinking, and to "put your best foot forward." It is helpful to prepare you what the interview will be like, if you've never had one before. One negative is navigating around it. Once you stop at a page and leave the app, you return back to the page. The only way to start from the beginning is to tap the screen, which is very slow and annoying.

3. Interview Wizard
This app only has 17 questions, which are very broad ones that will probably be the first couple an interviewer asks you. There is an upgrade to the app that costs money and it has "OVER 80 tough interview questions" with examples of categories that you get in one of the other free apps. This lite version comes off as one that wants you to buy the upgrade as opposed to actually helping you. This is more of a preview than anything else and not worth it. However, it is organized right and can give you a quick answer to easy questions if you think you have all the complicated ones down.

Which of the two are the biggest bang for your free buck? I'll tell you later ;-)

MTV "TJ" search furthers social media popularity

You know social media is coming to it's peak when MTV advertises for a "TJ," or tweet jockey.

That's right. Not a disc jockey or video jockey. Tweet jockey.

The website doesn't entirely specify what the job will entail because it hypes up the idea of moving to New York City and working with MTV Networks with a $100,000 two-year contract. For that, I wouldn't ask too many questions either. I'm putting my best guess that the person who becomes a TJ will update with MTV news and events constantly on Twitter.

Open nominations are now closed, but I'm sure they'll be doing it again, since they say it's such a huge success. The nominees start their Twitter challenges tomorrow, July 7th, so you can follow them through the process or wait for the finale on August 8th that will air on MTV.

"South Park" episode: You have 0 friends

In case someone out there hasn't realized just how serious the internet is, you only need to watch the first six minutes. Of course, why do that if you can watch the whole thing?

Since it is "South Park," it's rated TV-M: L.
